National Shake Down

Room 2 was not 'shaken' up by our participation in the National Shake Down...we're clever!

The class were asked several focusing questions to gauge their prior knowledge...and I have to say, the children really impressed me with their answers.

What is an earthquake?
* It shakes the Earth - Brody
* Trees fall off and buildings break - Lennox
* When there's an earthquake, gaps show in the earth. - Cynthia
* If there's a big one, there's a tsunami (giant wave) - Brody

What causes an earthquake?
* There's two plates under the ground and they move apart. - Cynthia
(We then watched a video that briefly showed what happens to the tectonic plates).

What do you do if there's an earthquake?
Drop!  Cover!  Hold!

Here are a few photo's of the children practising their DROP, COVER, HOLD earthquake safety drill.  (I had a great time rattling tables to see if the children were holding the tables securely).
