Over the next few weeks, Room 2 is taking a break from recount writing and are writing a variety of poems. Today, we wrote a poem about colours. We have been learning how to write similes and have used our senses to help us with this. Here are a few poems the children have written today.
ZOE
Green feels like freshly cut grass.
Orange smells like oranges growing on a branch.
Blue tastes like fresh water from the tap.
Brown feels like wood on a tree, lumpy under my hand.
Black looks like the night sky looking over the earth.
CYNTHIA
Turquoise tastes like the lovely ocean crashing on the rocks.
Yellow feels like the sun hovering over us.
Hazel looks like my eyes changing from brown into hazel.
White looks like seagulls flying by the rocks at the beach.
Brown feels like soil under the ground.
Green feels like a leaf falling onto my hand.
Red tastes like us eating raspberries.
Blue looks like the stars shining down on me at night.
LENNOX
Orange and black together looks like a bee collecting honey.
Orange and black feels like fluffy pillows.
Green sounds like aliens talking and they're gooey.
DAVID
Purple looks like purple Minions running around in circles putting their tongue out.
Brown is the colour of brown bears catching fish in the pond.
Red tastes like wobbly jelly.
TE KARAWHIU
Green feels like a bush moving around like a plate of jelly.
Red smells like a strawberry growing in a garden.
Brown looks like a sausage boiling in a pot at my house.
Blue looks like the ocean floor moving around with the waves.
Grey looks like concrete cracked on the ground, people can walk on it.
BRODY
Black looks like smoke coming from a stove.
Black tastes like burnt sausages on the fire.
Yellow feels like gold on your hands.
Green sounds like the bush crashing together.
Red looks like fire on the window.
