On Tuesday, 21st October, Rooms 1 and 2 enjoyed a morning with Constable Dave learning about cycle safety. He was really friendly and we all giggled at his drawings of people with poorly fitting safety helmets. We impressed Constable Dave with our knowledge of how to correctly fit a helmet and to get our bike seats to the correct height.
Once we'd discussed bicycle safety checks, we went outside to practise our bicycle control by swerving in and out of tight cones. We also learnt how to:
- Use hand signals to show cars that we wanted to turn and which direction.
- Stop quickly and maintain control of our bike.
- Understand road signs. This included stop signs, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings and give way signs.
Constable Dave created really interesting "roads" for us to practise on and and kept making us repeat these skills until we perfected them. (It didn't take us long!)
